West Canal is the nicest of the three Brazeau Reservoir campgrounds and contains
18 campsites nicely suited for both RV's and
tents. Amenities include water hand pump, dry toilets, refuse containers and
interpretive trails. Firewood
is available for sale. Campsites are nicely treed by aspen and spruce trees that provide good privacy
with a few choice sites located next to the canal, close enough to keep your
boat tied up. There is also a nice nature trail leading to lookouts with several
interpretive signs explaining the local wildlife and vegetation. Brazeau Reservoir is
excellent for power boating, canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Be careful with a
power boat, several shallow spots and floating debris can be a real hazard here.
The reservoir is man made for hydroelectricity and is approximately 13kms long
with the dam on it's northeast end. Bird watching can be very good as the
reservoir attracts several different bird species. Fisherman may catch Trout,
Char, Grayling and Whitefish. You'll need a
to try your luck. Night skies here rank #2 on the
Bortle Scale. See the official web site
