Graveyard Campground William A.
Switzer Provincial
Park.
Graveyard Campground is located in
William A. Switzer Provincial Park approximately
33km
north of the town of
Hinton.
305km west of the City of
Edmonton. There are
a total of 12 sites first come first
serve open year round. This
campground offers campsites for both
tents and larger RV's, dry toilets, water
available at
Cache Campground,
fire wood, picnic tables,
hiking, nearby canoeing & kayaking, mountain biking, wildlife watching,
guided tours, fish cleaning station, cross country skiing,
tobogganing
and snowmobiling off site.
The parks lakes are located a short
drive from here so if you have
children it may be better to stay at
the nearby
Greg Lake Campground. The campsites are located on an
open field next to Jarvis Creek.
Jarvis Creek
has good Brown Trout and Rainbow
Trout fishing. Nearby Greg Lake has good
northern Pike
Fishing. There is also a
stocked trout pond very close to here, you'll need a
fishing
license to try your luck.
William A. Switzer Provincial Park
has it all. There is lots to do here
for both adults and children. I'd
call this area the Swiss Army Knife
of camping as it has a bit of
everything.
Hikers and Mountain Bikers will find
more then 9
well groomed single track trails
throughout the park. The
Athabasca
Lookout Nordic Centre is
located here. This
Nordic Centre provides world class
cross country skiing and mountain bike
trails. The 1994 World Cup Biathlon
Race was held at this venue. William
Switzer Provincial Park is a canoers and kayakers dream. Several
of the lakes are connected by
crystal clear streams that
can be accessed with small
watercraft. William A.
Switzer Provincial Park also
attracts a large variety of
wildlife and migrating waterfowl. It is a great
place for birders and wildlife
watchers. The campgrounds name was
derived from a Native Burial Ground
that is located on the east side of
Gregg Lake. During 1880
to 1920 there was a store and
trading post located on the
northwest shore of Gregg Lake and
graveyards were found near this
campground.
Gregg Lake Campground,
Jarvis Lake
Campground,
Cache Campground and
Halfway
Campground are all located in this
park. Night skies here
rank # 4.5 on
the
Bortle Scale.
This is
bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
