Interlake's Campground Peter Lougheed Provincial Park Kananaskis Country.
Interlake's campground is located
approximately
156km south west of
the city of Calgary in
Peter Lougheed Provincial Park,
Kananaskis country. There are
48 campsites
that are available on a first come
first serve basis. The
campground fills fast on weekends
due to it's close proximity to the
City of Calgary. This
campground offers large well treed campsites for both
tents and larger RV's, water, dry toilets, picnic
tables and fire pits. Dry firewood is
available here for a fee.
This is
bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly. The
Interlake's campground runs along
the south shore of
Lower Kananaskis
Lake. 25 of the 48 campsites are
located right on the lake front and are
absolutely beautiful. Views of the
lake and the surrounding valley will
keep you mesmerized. Boaters can
leave a small boat on shore right in
front of their campsite. There
are several trails located in the
area along with an extensive scenic
paved bike path system. You can ride
a bike around this entire area.
There is a lot to explore here, the
Upper
Kananaskis Lake is a short
walk away. Both lakes have very
nice picnic areas with picnic tables
located close to the lakes edge. The
Upper
Kananaskis Lake has a well groomed hiking
trail around the entire lake that
offers beautiful views of Mount
Lyautey, Mount Sarrail, Mount Foch
and Mount Fox. Trailheads to
Rawson
Lake,
Hidden Lake,
Fossil Falls, Astor Lake and
Three Isle Lake are located at the
Upper
Kananaskis Lake. Both the
Upper and
Lower
Kananaskis Lakes have excellent boat
launches for both power boats and
small water craft such as canoes.
Canoeing the
Upper or Lower lakes on a calm
summers evening would be an
unforgettable experience. There are
Rainbow Trout,
Cutthroat
Trout and Bull Trout in
both the lakes. You'll need a
fishing
license to try out your
luck.
William Watson Lodge is
located a few
kms
east of here. The
lodge was created to provide equal
access to this beautiful area for
people of all abilities and provides
1st class
accommodations for
seniors and those with disabilities.
I tip my hat to Jean Lougheed who
thought of creating this Lodge and
her husband
Peter Lougheed
who made it happen.
