Sibbald Lake Campground In Alberta
Kananaskis Country.
Sibbald Lake Campground is located
within the
Foot Hills of the Rocky Mountains Kananaskis country,
45 minutes west of Calgary. There are
134 large well treed Campsites
available on a first come first
serve basis. The
campground fills fast on weekends
due to it's close proximity to the
City of Calgary. This
campground offers campsites for both
tents and larger RV's, amphitheatre,
interpretive trails, dry toilets and water
with no hook ups. Dry firewood is
available here for a fee.
This is
bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly. Sibbald
Lake and Pond are stocked with
Rainbow Trout. You'll need an
Alberta
fishing
license to try out your luck.
Sibbald Flats
is located just past the campground
and is great for mountain biking,
cross county skiing and snowshoeing.
There are several
km's
of gravel highway leading to the
campground. Highway 68 winds its way
west to the Kananaskis highway and
Peter Lougheed
Provincial Park. The
nearby junction at
Sibbald Flats
leads
36Km's
south along the Powderface Trail
towards
Little Elbow
Campground. Several good
trailheads offering excellent hikes
can be found on the Powderface
Trail. Powderface Trail is a rough
and dusty road that is designated
'Use at your own risk'.
Night skies here are dark and rank #
3 on the
Bortle Scale, the highway to the campground
entrance is
gravel.
