Sir Winston Churchill Campground Alberta Provincial
Park.
Sir Winston Churchill campground is located on
an Island on Lake Lac La Biche approximately
230km
north of the City of
Edmonton.
Access runs across a
2.5km
causeway from the town of
Lac La Biche. There are
72 sites with reservations
available by calling 1-877-537-2757. This
campground offers campsites for both
tents and larger RV's, nice group
camping, clean sandy beach,
picnic tables, public
phone, showers, electricity, water,
fire wood, sani dump,
swimming areas, play grounds,
amphitheatre,
boat launch and fish cleaning
stations.
There is also a golf course located
a few kilometers from here. The
nearby town of Lac La Biche provides
all the amenities and services one
would need. Lake Lac
La Biche offers excellent
Lake Trout,
northern Pike,
Perch,
Whitefish
and
Burbot fishing, you'll need a
fishing
license to try your luck.
This campground is excellent for
families with young children, the
kids can spend hours on the beach
and nearby playgrounds. There are
both campsites located on the lake
and in the surrounding old growth
mixed forest that offer good
privacy. This park is another bird
watchers paradise and a breeding
ground for several species of birds.
At least 224 of the approximate 330
Alberta bird species have been
observed here. Near the north end of
the island there is a public viewing
scope for observing
American White
Pelicans. There are
several nice hiking trails with view
points and interpretive signs
explaining the local wildlife and
vegetation.
Night skies ranks # 3-4 on
the
Bortle Scale. This
is one of Alberta's finest Lake
Campgrounds and well worth a visit. This is
bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
