Thunder Lake Campground Alberta Provincial
Park.
Thunder Lake campground and
Provincial Park is located approximately
140km
north west of the City of
Edmonton. There are
a total of 127 sites with reservations
available by calling 1-780-674-4051. This
campground offers campsites for both
tents and larger RV's, group
camping, huge sandy beach,
canoeing &
kayaking, play grounds, picnic shelters, public
phone, showers, water,
power,
fire wood, picnic tables, handicap
sites, concession, sani dump,
swimming areas, boat launch,
water skiing, fish cleaning stations, ice fishing
and wildlife watching.
The camp sites are well treed and
located
in the surrounding
Boreal Forest. Thunder Lake
has good northern Pike and Yellow
Perch fishing, you'll need a
fishing
license to try your luck.
Thunder Lake campground
is great for families with young
children, the kids can spend hours
at the beach and nearby playgrounds. Boaters will find a well designed
easy to use boat launch and dock.
Expect a lot of motor boats here
during summer weekends. Thunder
Lake
has an approximate total surface
area of
7.03km with an
average depth of
3m,
maximum depth of
6.1m.
The lake turns green with algae
during the summer months. Thunder Lake Provincial Park also
attracts a large variety of
migrating waterfowl and is a great
place for birders. In the month of
July I found several varieties of
mushrooms growing throughout the
entire campground. Thunder Lake was
named after the load noise of ice
cracking during the winter months. Night skies here
rank # 4.5 on
the
Bortle Scale.
This is
bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
