Willow Rock Campground.
Willow Rock campground is located in the
Foothills to the Rocky Mountains in
Bow Valley Provincial Park, Kananaskis country,
40 minutes west of Calgary and
29km
east of
Canmore. There are
124 Campsites, 34 with
power. The campground runs
along the Trans Canada 1A Highway
and the Kananaskis River. This
campground fills fast on weekends
due to it's close proximity to the
City of Calgary.
It also makes for an excellent late
start stop over if you're planning
to tour the National Parks or
passing through on the 1A. Due to
the highway noise I would consider
this campground a layover or rest
spot when touring. This campground
has two sections, one being very
close to the Trans Canada 1A
highway, very noisy, and the other
being near the Kananaskis River. The
campground offers campsites for both
tents and larger RV's, amphitheatre,
playground,
interpretive trails, water, laundry,
flush toilets, showers, telephone
and sani dump. Dry firewood is
available here for a fee. There are
a few easy hikes
that can be accessed from the
campground. Rainbow Trout, Cutthroat
Trout and Whitefish can be caught in
the Kananaskis River. You'll need a
fishing
license to try out your luck.
Bow Valley Campground,
Elk Flats
Group Campground,
Lac Des Arc
Campground,
Bow River Campground and
Three Sisters Campground are all
located near here.
This is
bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
See the official web site
link below for fees, opening and closing
dates.
