Powder Face Ridge Trail In Alberta Kananaskis Country.

Powder Face Ridge trail has two trail heads (Map), one at each end. The first is located 100 meters past Elbow Falls and the second more Southerly approach shown in the picture below is located at the Little Elbow campground turn off. The South end trail winds it's way up through a Spruce and Pine forest opening onto a beautiful mountain meadow that leads to Powder Face ridge. Approximate elevation gain is 500 meters, allow 3 hours for a return trip from the summit. In September of 2008 there was a blow down near the South start of the trail. Blow downs are rare events that are are caused by very strong winds funneled into one spot by the local geography. The pictures of the fallen tree's clearly shows the impact and strength of these winds. This trail offers excellent views of Mount Glasgow, Mount Cornwall, Outlaw Peak and Banded Peak. The summit offers a classic transitional view of prairies to mountains with the city of Calgary visible on the Eastern horizon. Powder Face Ridge, Forget Me Not Ridge and nearby Prairie Mountain are perfect spring time hikes for getting your summer legs back in shape. Goose Berry campground, Little Elbow, Beaver Flat campground, Paddy's Flat campground, Moose Mountain, Moose Mountain Ice Cave, Nihahi Ridge, Elbow Loop and Forgetmenot Pond day use picnic area are located just West and East of here.
