Location/Description
Location: Blue Rock campground Kananaskis Country is located approximately 40km west of the town of Turner Valley and 15km west of Sandy McNabb campground.
Description: The campground offers 83 campsites for both tents and larger RV’s, dry toilets, water pumps, garbage bins, picnic tables and fire pits. Dry firewood is available here for sale in small bundles. There is also a nearby equestrian campground with several spots including unloading ramps and hitching posts for horses. The nearby Sheep River runs crystal clear and is home to wild Cutthroat Trout, Bull Trout and Rainbow Trout. You’ll need a fishing license to try your luck, see regulations for catch and release.
If you like to mountain bike, this campground is a perfect base camp. There is an old logging road that follows the valley bottom towards Little Bow Campground. If you want to complete this loop it may require an overnight stay in the back country. Deer, Elk, Bear and Bighorn Sheep are abundant in this area. Night skies here rate #3 on the Bortle Scale. Views of the crystal clear pools and eddies along the Sheep River are beautiful. The water can be to cold for swimming. The hike along Blue Rock creek offers excellent views of the Blue Rock valley. You are in bear country
