Bleriot Ferry Campground Alberta
Sites
First Come or Reserve
Location/Description
Location: 25kms north of Drumheller on the Dinosaur Trail road. Red Deer Valley Alberta.
Description: The campground is named after the nearby Bleriot Ferry that crosses the Red Deer River and is one of the few remaining cable ferries in Alberta. The ferry is free and maintained by the government. It operates before and after freeze up.
The surrounding natural odd shaped land formations are called the Badlands. These arid softer sedimentary rock formations have been created by several million years of erosion. The campground is located on the bank of the Red Deer River with 28 sites for both RV’s and tents.
Most of the campsites are divided by willow bushes that create a wind break and privacy. Amenities include picnic tables, fire pits, water, dry toilets, refuse containers and camp kitchen. Campers are required to provide their own firewood.
If you want to explore the surrounding Badlands you can hike for several miles in both directions along the Red Deer river.
Make sure to pack plenty of water in the summer as it can be very hot and dry. The Cactus plants is a good indication of just how dry and arid it is. The nearby town of Drumheller has several souvenir, fossil shops, restaurants, lodging, shopping, gas, grocery stores and home of the famous Royal Tyrrell Museum. Night skies here rank # 4 on the Bortle Scale. See the official web site link below for fees, opening and closing dates. The Tyrrell Museum is also located near here.
