Location/Description
Location: Thunder Lake Provincial Park 140kms northwest of Edmonton Alberta. Due to it’s close proximity to Edmonton it fills fast on weekends Reservations are advised.
Description: Thunder Lake campground contains 127 well treed campsites nicely suited for both RV’s and tents. Amenities include group camping, huge sandy beach, canoeing & kayaking, play grounds, picnic shelters, public phone, showers, water, power, picnic tables, handicap sites, concession, sani dump, swimming areas, boat launch, water skiing, fish cleaning stations, ice fishing and wildlife watching. Firewood is available for sale.
Thunder Lake has good Northern Pike and Yellow Perch fishing. You’ll need a fishing license to try your luck. The campground is great for families with young children Kids can spend hours at the beach and nearby playgrounds. Boaters will find a well designed easy to use boat launch with a long dock for mooring. Expect a lot of motor boats here during summer weekends.
Thunder Lake has an approximate total surface area of 7.03kms with an average depth of 3ms, maximum depth of 6.1ms. Avoid any contact with the lake water during summer blue-green algae blooms. Thunder Lake Provincial Park also attracts a large variety of migrating waterfowl and is a great place for birders. The lake was named after loud ice cracking during the winter months.
Night skies here are ink black and rank #4-5 on the Bortle Scale. This is bear country, food and food related items must be stored properly.
