The North Saskatchewan river is located a short walk south of the highway. This area is very important to the local Stoney Indians. Native peoples have resided here for centuries and consider most of this land sacred. One can see why they settled here. The weather is warm and dry with little rain or snow. In fact it is classified as the driest location in the Canadian Rockies.
The private land west of the campground is home to native vision quest and sundance ceremonial sites. Vision quest sites can be identified by several strips of colored cloth tied to trees in a ceremonial fashion.
Night skies here are ink black and rank #1 on the Bortle Scale. This is bear country, food and food related items must be stored properly.
