Allstones Creek Hike

Trailhead: Park on the east side of the #11 David Thompson Highway just past the causeway going over Allstones Creek. 194kms west of Rocky Mountain House. 4.5 hour drive from Edmonton 3.5 hours from Calgary. 

Description: Wear an old pair of runners for numerous creek crossings. This is a great hike to do with young children on a hot summers day. Cross the highway or if you really want to have some fun head over to the flood culvert that runs under the highway. You can walk through an 80m dry culvert before you drop down to Allstones Creek.

From here you follow the creek upstream 2.25kms until you reach a 6m high waterfall. There is no point in trying to keep your feet dry. You’ll have to cross Allstones Creek in several locations to continue on. The creek George is surrounded by interesting vertical serrated rock walls that are not often seen in the Canadian Rockies. At about 1.75kms you’ll reach a 2m high narrow step in the creek. You can scramble up the middle through the flowing creek or work your way up the right over some slippery rock. Continue on until you reach the falls. From the falls you can climb a short steep slope to gain the ridge over Allstones Creek. You are in bear country
