Location/Description
Location: West side of the #22 highway 109kms south of Calgary. Willow Creek valley lies between the Porcupine foothills and Rocky Mountains in Chain Lakes Provincial Park Alberta.
Description: Chain Lakes Campground is open year round and contains 122 campsites for both RV’s and tents. Most of the sites are surrounded by willow bushes creating a wind break and some privacy. A few choice sites are located near the lake.
Amenities include playground, group camping, communal fire pits only, dry toilets, potable water, garbage bins, power in loop A, community kitchens, small craft boat launch, beach, small concession store, sani dump and picnic tables. Dry firewood is available here for a fee.
Chain lakes is excellent for wind surfing, swimming, fishing and small water craft with a 12kmh restriction. The reservoir was created for irrigation and is approximately 10kms long with a dam located on it’s southeast end. The reservoir is stocked annually with Rainbow Trout and offers good fly and ice fishing. You’ll need a fishing license to try your luck.
This area offers some of the nicest views of Alberta’s rolling foothills that lay below the Livingstone Mountain range. Children will love it here during the summer months They can play on the beach and open grassy areas then visit the ice cream shop. The grassy area next to the Lake is excellent for lawn chair fishing, astronomers and star gazers.
