Chrystina Lake Campground

Location:  19kms northeast of Swan Hills Alberta. Note 12kms of gravel road access.

Description: Chrystina Lake campground contains 10 campsites suited for both RV’s and tents. Amenities include picnic tables, dry toilets, small water craft boat launch, canoeing and kayaking. Firewood may be available for sale.

As you drive into Chrystina Lake campground you’ll pass by the world class Swan Hills Hazardous Waste Treatment Plant. This enormous facility is located 2kms from the campground.

There is not much information regarding the campground or the lake and one gets the feeling there may be a reason. I did see a few fish jump but lost all interest in this area after reading a publication about Brook Trout containing mercury. This may be a natural occurrence however being so close to the Swan Hills hazardous waste treatment plant certainly makes this area unattractive and raises the question as to why the campground was left open.
