Cold Lake Campground

Location: South shore of Cold Lake 2.8kms east of the town of Cold Lake Alberta. Cold Lake Provincial Park.

Description: Cold Lake campground contains 117 campsites suitable for both RV’s and tents with a few choice sites located near the lake. The campground is located on Lund’s Point Peninsula jutting into Cold Lake. Sites are well treed and offer good privacy. Amenities include group camping, sandy beaches, picnic shelters, flush toilets, showers, water, fire wood available for sale, picnic tables, sani dump, swimming areas, boat launches, fish cleaning stations, amphitheater and several play grounds.

Two 18 hole golf courses are also located near here. Cold Lake is a large deep body of water with several beautiful beaches located in and near the city of Cold Lake. There is also another 3 boat access only beaches. Some of these beaches may possibly be the best in Alberta. Cold Lake offers excellent Lake Trout, Lake Whitefish, Northern Pike, Walleye and Perch fishing. The record Lake Trout weighs in at 23.9kilos. You’ll need a fishing license to try your luck.

This campground is excellent for families with young children, kids can spend hours on the beach and nearby playgrounds. Boaters have access to well designed and easy to use boat launches plus a first class Marina located in the city of Cold Lake. There are several trails for hiking, biking and cross country skiing. The Iron horse trail which is an abandoned rail line runs 260kms from Cold Lake to Waskatenau.

This area is also excellent for bird watching, the Lake attracts numerous species of birdlife along with unique nesting areas. There is also a good chance of seeing a fighter jet fly over head. The Canadian Cold Lake air force base is located close to here. Night skies here rank #4-5 on the Bortle Scale. This is bear country, food and food related items must be stored properly.
