Location/Description
Location: 4.8kms south of Highwood Station on gravel road #54A that intersects the #40 Kananaskis Trail highway. 58kms southwest of Longview. Kananaskis Country.
Description: Etherington Creek Campground contains 60 campsites for RV’s and tents. Six of these sites are walk-in tents only. Amenities include dry toilets, hand operated water pump, garbage bins, picnic tables and fire pits. Dry firewood is available here for sale.
This campground also has a group camp and equestrian area, several campsites include hitching posts for horses. There are only 5-6 1st come sites that are located within an older flood site. Etherington Creek runs crystal clear and is home to wild Cutthroat Trout. You’ll need a fishing license to try your luck.
With good eyes you can see Strawberry Ridge fire lookout to the south. The 1st ridge to the west is an easy half day hike. If you like to mountain biking this campground is a perfect base camp. There are several old logging roads that follow the valley bottom with spectacular views and access to the great divide trail.
Deer, Elk and Bighorn Sheep are all around this area. Highwood Station is located 5kms north of here at the Kananaskis Trail turn off. Gas, diesel, limited grocery, sani dump and water are available. Highway #40 is closed to motorized traffic from December 1st to June 15th for local wildlife preservation. During this closure time the highway is excellent for early spring cycling.
Night skies here are ink black and rank #2 on the Bortle Scale. This is bear country, food and food related items must be stored properly.

Nice campground with treed spots. Good fishing in all the nearby streams.
