Location/Description
Location: #11 David Thompson highway 95kms west of Rocky Mountain House Alberta. Note 1.5km gravel road access.
Description: Fish Lake campground contains 92 campsites mostly surrounded by aspen and spruce tress that provide good privacy. Several of the campsites are located next to the lake with some of these being excellent pull throughs. There is some confusion towards the name fish lake campground and the actual lake called Shundra.
Amenities include water, fire pits, dry toilets, power, information kiosk, pay telephone, small store, boat launch, dock, refuse containers, fish cleaning stations, community kitchens and fire wood available for sale. Shundra Lake is excellent for fly fishing, canoeing and kayaking.
There are also several hiking and mountain bike trails located nearby including a 1hour interpretive lake shore trail. Shundra lake is 1.2kms long with a maximum width of 600ms and crystal clear. The lake is stocked with Rainbow Trout. You’ll need a fishing license to try your luck.
Fish lake campground has an excellent day use area with a boat launch and large dock that you can fish from, take your lawn chair. Shundra lake has a boat motor restriction and is best suited for small water craft. The lake is also home to several Loons that can be heard throughout the day and evening.
Night skies here rank #4-5 on the Bortle Scale. This is bear country, food and food related items must be stored properly.
