Description

Trailhead: Located on the Cameron Lake road approximately 14.5km from the town of Waterton in Waterton National Park. Park at the Akamina trailhead

Description: Akamina Provincial Park is located in British Columbia however the trail head is on the Alberta side within Waterton National Park. This trail is popular with mountain bikers, expect to share the trail. Follow an old logging road towards Forum and Wall Lakes. Both Lakes can be completed in one outing and well worth the effort.

Stay on the road until you reach the Forum Lake junction, turn left and continue on another 2.4km to Forum Lake. Along the way you’ll pass by Forum Falls and a ranger station. Note the dense  lush and green undergrowth in this area. More so than Banff and Jasper National parks. Within 30 minutes or so you’ll arrive at Forum Lake.

Keep an eye out for goats that may be located on the towering cliffs straight ahead and Akamina Ridge that runs along the top of the cliffs. Forum Lake offers good Cutthroat Trout fishing. You’ll need a fishing license to try your luck, check regulations for closures. Ice is usually off the first week of July. You Are In Bear Country.

Really nice hike with a backcountry campground along the way. Perfect for a short overnighter.
