Location/Description
Location: North shore of Moose Lake 196kms north of Edmonton 14kms east of Bonnyville Moose Lake Provincial Park Alberta.
Description: Franchere Bay campground contains 198 campsites suitable for both RV’s and tents. Some of the sites are well treed providing good privacy however most are open to one another and somewhat poorly laid out.
The surrounding Jack Pine forest has been cut back and thinned out to prevent the spread of forest fires so campsites are fairly open. Amenities include group camping, sandy beach, picnic shelters, showers, flush toilets, water, fire wood for sale, picnic tables, fire pits, firewood available for sale, sani dump, swimming areas, boat launch, fish cleaning station, horseshoe pits and play grounds.
A golf course is also located nearby. Moose Lake offers good Northern Pike, Perch and Walleye fishing. You’ll need a fishing license to try your luck. This campground is good for adults and young children, kids can spend hours on the beach and nearby playground. The west shore of Moose Lake and the Thinlake River inflow are perfect for canoeing or kayaking.
Depending on algae blooms Moose Lake can be good for swimming. There is a marked swimming area located off the beach. The lake can be very busy on weekends and is heavily populated with recreational use. The nearby town of Bonnyville is worth exploring and has all the amenities one would need.
Night skies here rank #3-4 on the Bortle Scale. This is bear country, food and food related items must be stored properly.
