Description
Trailhead: Park at the Horseshoe Lake parking lot on the east side of the Icefields Parkway approximately 25kms south of Jasper in Jasper National Park.
Description: Near the edge of the parking lot you’ll find a well worn trail that leads to the southern end of the lake. Named after it’s shape, Horse Shoe Lake is a crystal clear beautiful green turquoise color. This lake is the best natural swimming hole in the area however the water is extremely cold, you’ll need a hot day to enjoy a dip. There are several cliffs that the locals jump and dive off of.
You can continue on as the trail follows the lakeshore. It disappears wherever there are rock ledges and slabs next to the lake. There is also a small craft boat launch that is perfect for canoes and kayaks. The lake is good for Rainbow trout fishing, you’ll need a fishing license to try your luck. The water is so clear you can see the fish swimming in and out of the underwater ledges. Fly fisherman with belly boats will love this lake. The marsh near the start of the trail is full of wildflowers. Horseshoe Lake is an excellent spot for a picnic or to waste a hot summers day away. You are in bear country PDF
