Location/Description
Location: West side of the Icefields Parkway 24kms north of Lake Louise. Banff National Park.
Description: Mosquito Creek Campground contains 32 campsites that are open year round. Amenities include picnic tables, potable water, dry toilets, communal camp kitchen and fire pits. Fire wood is available when purchasing a fire permit.
This campground offers a nice mix of sites for both tents and RV’s. There are also few picnic sites located next to the creek on the south side of the campground. The campgrounds location makes a good base camp for hiking, scrambling, climbing, biking, cross country skiing, snow showing and ice climbing. Hikes to Caldron Lake, Fish Lakes and Molar Pass are located near here.
Mosquito Creek Hostel is located on the south side of Mosquito Creek. Alpine climbers often stay here for climbs leading up Hector Mountain and the Hector Glacier located within a few kms.
Beautiful Hector Lake is also located nearby. Trailhead can be found next to the highway just south of here. Hector Lake lies below the south end of the Crowfoot Glacier and rarely see’s visitors due to a dangerous ford crossing the Bow River. The lake is fed by the Wapta and Waputik Icefields. Hector Lake holds large Lake Trout. You’ll need a National Park fishing license to try your luck.
National Park campgrounds tend to fill quickly and are usually full for the night by early afternoon. Night skies here rank #3 on the Bortle Scale. This is bear country, food and food related items must be stored properly.
