Twin Lakes Campground
Sites
First Come or Reserve
Location/Description
Location: 8kms northwest of Rocky Mountain House Alberta. Equal 2.25 hour drive from both Calgary and Edmonton.
Description: Twin Lakes campground contains 39 campsites. Several of the sites are surrounded by Aspen and Spruce trees that provide some privacy however most of the central sites are open to one another. Amenities include group campground, fire pits, dry toilets, picnic tables, refuse containers, playground, boat launch, boat dock, fish cleaning station and fire wood available for sale.
There are several wooden walkways that have been constructed alongside the lake and marsh. One of these is possibly the nicest wooden walkway in Alberta that is built over the surrounding marsh with a length over 150ms leading towards a small island that has viewing benches and dock. If the wooden walkway is wet be careful. When wet I’m sure it becomes the slipperiest surface on earth. While taking a picture I did a complete head spin and fell into the marsh, onlookers were very amused.
The lake is perfect for canoeing, kayaking, float tubing and small water craft. The electric motors only restriction keeps the lake in pristine condition. Twin Lakes is stocked with Rainbow Trout and offers good fly fishing. You’ll need a fishing license to try out your luck. The docks located on the lake are perfect for lawn chair fishing or viewing the local wildlife.
The nearby town of Rocky Mountain House has all the amenities one would need and there is an interesting museum located there
Night skies here are ink black and rank #4 on the Bortle Scale. This is bear country, food and food related items must be stored properly.
